I finished the RESTful Blog app on Web Developer Bootcamp today.
100 Days of coding (and beyond?)
I continued with the Udemy Web Developer Bootcamp today. I’ll SHOW you what I worked on:
I continued with the Udemy Web Developer Bootcamp today. I am working on the Yelpcamp project and learned this was the first time I’ve put all the pieces together and used data from a database to power a web application that I “built” using JavaScript.
I continued with the Udemy Web Developer Bootcamp today. Mongoose is an ORM used to interact with MongoDB. I’ve worked with databases for most of my career and I typically think ORMs are evil, but I can see the appeal when I don’t know how to access objects in the database without using the ORM.
Today I worked on my own for an hour doing the Udemy Web Developer Bootcamp. The material today started on the big YelpCamp prject that I think will be the remainder of the course.
But the activity that stretched my brain more than the Udemy class was doing some pair programming as an entrance exam for Code Chrysalis, a coding bootcamp in Tokyo. I acted as the navigator while trying to work through some basic library functions like creating foreach and map from scratch. I’ve heard about pair programming for a while now, but I’ve never been a participant. It was stressful, but I will remember the solutions a lot more than if I had just typed them up on my own. I can see the advantages for the programmer to get better at their craft.
I continued with the Udemy Web Developer Bootcamp today. I am getting pretty good at creating an Express App. I’m not having to think as much when doing the Udemy course, but at least I am still spending at least an hour each day learning about web development.
I continued with two hours of the Udemy Web Developer Bootcamp today. Today was more on express and ejs, but also started the API section.
In honor of my halfway point I decided to do two hours of the Udemy Web Developer Bootcamp today. The lectures were on using parameters in express and using EJS templates. I’ve gone through this section before, but I am redoing all of the back end material because it obviously didn’t stick. I am also forcing myself to listen at normal speed because I retain the information better.
Switched back to the Udemy course, Web Developer Bootcamp again today. The instructor is going over node.js and npm and it is good to hear it presented again after the material on FCC.
Today I worked on JavaScript katas from the Code Wars website. They are great practice for cementing the concepts I’ve been studying. I needed to google a few things on syntax, but I felt pretty decent about my solutions.
